- 18 multiple-choice questions (1 mark each)
- 7 short written-answer questions (2 marks each)
- Total: 32 marks
- Pass mark: 81% (26 correct answers)
- Duration: 35 minutes (can use course materials in last 15 minutes)

Your SMSTS Certificate
Pass your assessment and receive your CITB SMSTS certificate – widely recognized across the UK construction industry. It proves you’ve completed the Site Management Safety Training Scheme and understand your legal responsibilities.
Certificate validity: 5 years from issue date
Renewal: Complete the 2-day SMSTS Refresher before expiry
CITB doesn’t issue cards – you receive a certificate. For a CSCS Black Card (Manager Card), you’ll need an NVQ Level 6 in Construction Site Management alongside other requirements.
